# ADE Beta

> Get new ADE builds every few hours on the desktop and iPhone, before they reach a stable release.

ADE Beta is the early track. It is built automatically from ADE's `main` branch, so fixes and features reach you hours after they merge instead of waiting for the next stable release. Every stable release is a beta that has already run on real machines without new errors.

Beta builds are less tested than stable ones. Use Beta if you want the newest work and don't mind the occasional rough edge, and tell us what breaks.

## Desktop

The desktop app, the brain and the `ade` CLI all follow the track of their machine.

1. Open **Settings › General**.
2. Under **Update track**, choose **Beta**.
3. Restart when ADE offers the new build.

A beta build is the same ADE install with the same data, projects and `ade` CLI. It shows an orange icon and a **Beta** label next to the logo, and its version looks like `1.2.129-beta.3`. A new beta comes out when something that ships has changed, at most every few hours.

Each machine has its own track. You can keep your main Mac on Stable and run Beta on a second machine; they work together either way. A phone shows a **Beta** chip on a machine that runs the Beta track.

To leave, choose **Stable** under **Update track**. ADE installs the newest stable build, even though it is older than the beta you are on. If a beta ever fails to start, the **ADE could not start** window offers **Go back** to the previous version.

## iPhone

Beta iPhone builds go to a separate app, **ADE Beta**, with an orange icon. Join it from your iPhone:

>
> testflight.apple.com/join/SsxDjqbF

* It installs beside the normal ADE app with its own data and pairings, so a bad beta never replaces the app you rely on.
* Either app connects to machines on either track. Sign in with the same account and your machines appear.
* A new ADE Beta build comes with each desktop beta that changed the iPhone app. Apple reviews each public beta build first, which usually takes minutes but can take longer.
* Web links and the pairing QR code from the Camera app open the normal app. To pair ADE Beta, use the scanner inside ADE Beta.

The normal app stays on its own TestFlight link, [testflight.apple.com/join/ZSdJGKPy](https://testflight.apple.com/join/ZSdJGKPy), and updates with stable releases.

## Web

The web client at [app.ade-app.dev](https://app.ade-app.dev) has no separate beta. It updates minutes after a change merges, so it is always the newest version.

## Report a problem

Found a bug in a beta? Open an issue on [GitHub](https://github.com/arul28/ADE/issues) with the version from **Settings › General** (or the build number from TestFlight). Beta crashes are also reported automatically, which is how a beta earns its way to stable.
